The History of the Halloween Costumes
Modern-day halloween is a mix of many different celebrations and cultures. The Celts 2000 years ago thought the world of the dead mixed with the living on October 31st, just after the harvest time & ushering in the cold, dead winter. They would wear animal skins in ceremonies of fortune telling and masks to protect them from the dead. When the Romans ruled 400 years ago, they mixed in their celebrations of the commemorating the dead, so in response, the Pope designated November 1st as All-hallows day or All Saints Day about 800 years ago, which then made the night before All-hallows Eve, eventually called Halloween. All these events were meshed together and celebrated with costumes of saints, angels, demons, ghost, and masks. Today, the event has become more community-orientedand halloween costumes have become anything, and not only kids costumes but adult costumes as well.
